Darren Weeks began his activism during his teenage years, picketing abortion clinics, and focusing on other social issues. From his earliest years, he had an interest in radio and dabbled in the industry, producing radio shows on various stations in large and small markets when he was a teenager and in his early 20s. He worked at a small AM station before attending the Specs Howard School of Broadcast Arts in Southfield, Michigan, graduating in May 1991. Over the years, he has been employed at a number of network-affiliated TV stations as well as the college of communications, arts and sciences at a major university. Much of his career was focused on the technical production of local television news broadcasts. It was during this time that he obtained a great deal of insight into the personalities and education (or lack thereof) of the many people behind the cameras. It was also during his employment at one of these stations that he discovered patriot radio on the C-band satellite. That proved to be a discovery that would forever change his life.
